(NYSE: WCN) today announced that its Board of Directors has authorized a $400 million increase to its ongoing common stock repurchase program, increasing the total authorized amount the Company may repurchase from $800 million to $1.2 billion. The Board also extended the program's term through December 31, 2014. As of September 30, 2011, the remaining maximum dollar value of shares available for repurchase under the program was approximately $65 million. Stock repurchases may be made pursuant to a Rule 10b5-1 plan or in open market or privately negotiated transactions from time to time at management's discretion. The timing and amounts of any repurchases will depend on many factors, including the Company's capital structure, acquisition activity, the market price of the common stock and overall market conditions.
